Galaxy S5: Complete List of Custom ROMs

As promised, today I have worked on getting a huge list of custom ROMs that work on various models of the Galaxy S5. Let me know what you think and tell me if you know of any that should be added to the list.

Custom ROMs have to be one of my favorite aspects of Android. Think of a custom ROM as a modded operating system. If you are familiar with Linux, then you can think of it as a different flavor of Linux(Ubuntu, Mint, Redhat, etc). The list below has been divided up between the various models of the Galaxy S5.

Each Samsung Galaxy S5 has its own model number so for example, the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S5 has the model number G900A.

You’ll need to find out which model you have and then browse through the various custom ROMs available for your device. If you like one, then download it and follow the tutorial I wrote earlier this week on how to flash a custom ROM on the Galaxy S5. Each one of these ROMs has their own unique style and they almost all differ in some way or another. If you want to keep the TouchWiz features then you should pick something that uses TouchWiz as a base. If you want to use something more like CM12(or vanilla Android), then you’ll want to pick something that uses AOSP as a base.

Since there are so many different ROMs out there, there’s no way that I can know what all of them do. The best thing to do is read through the XDA thread and look at the screenshots. If a custom ROM looks like something you would enjoy then go ahead and download it so you can flash it. Remember, as long as you create a Nandroid backup of the Galaxy S5 before you flash a custom ROM, you can always restore from that backup and get right back where you started.

Galaxy S5 Custom ROMs

Before you flash one of these custom ROMs, you will need to have your Galaxy S5 rooted and you will also need to have a custom recovery installed on your Galaxy S5. Once that is done, go ahead and create your backup and then proceed to find a custom ROM that you like the most.

Again, I don’t know what all of these ROMs do, I’ve just collected you a list up and organized it for you. You’ll have to learn as much as you can about the ROM from either reading through the threads or experimenting yourself. As long as you have a backup created, you should feel safe experimenting with custom ROMs.

Still, if you get stuck or have any questions then go ahead and leave a comment below and I will help out in any way that I can.

Also, if there is a custom ROM that you are aware of that isn’t listed here, please leave a comment below with a link to the XDA thread for that ROM. I would like to limit things to only ROMs that have been used by the XDA community, but I will also approve comments that link to official builds(CM12, SlimLP, etc). Just be sure to include the exact model number for the Galaxy S5 custom ROM that you are linking to. This way things continue to stay as organized as possible 🙂

  1. Thank you for this beautiful post. I used Xtresolite for about 6 months on G900H, and it was quite okay (better than the stork ROM), but occasionally, it becomes buggy, so I had to do a factory reset.
About 4 weeks ago, I moved on to Zephyr Lite, which is based on Android 5.0. It has been a delight to use, the only problem being that once in a while the touchscreen becomes inaccurate, and I had to restart or remove the battery. I can’t wait for the 5.1 update

    1. Thanks for this awesome feedback Omo. I appreciate you letting me know which ones you’ve tried and what the experience of them were.

Do any others experience the same issues you had or were those singular cases?

      1. I am not aware of any other person using the ROMs, so I wouldn’t know if they are experiencing the issues. However, I will be trying the Lollipop Xtrestolite in the coming weeks to see if it is any better than Zephyr.
NB: Both are miles better than the stork Touchwhiz

    1. I haven’t personally updated the list since earlier this year but some of our visitors have helped to add some newer ones in the comments section.

The one listed in the post should still be good. If you find a dead link, please let me know

      1. You can include VRToxin for Gt900f. Its version 6 marshmallow. Very smooth.

But thanks again, this helped allot 🙂
