Samsung showcased it’s latest innovation, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, during it’s Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 caters to power users and boasts top-of-the-line specifications.

As the market leader in folding devices, Samsung aims to further solidify it’s position with the introduction of these two groundbreaking devices. Prior to the launch, there were numerous rumors and leaks surrounded the Z Fold 5. Now, with the official specifications revealed, it appears that many of these rumors were indeed accurate.

In addition to upgraded internals, the device features notable improvements in design and build quality. One crucial aspect that received attention from the South Korean smartphone giant was the hinge, a critical component of any folding device and thanks to the new Flex hinge, the device folds completely flat with no gap.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ cover display offering a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 2316 x 904 resolution and a 23.1:9 aspect ratio. The refresh rate on the cover display can be switched between 48Hz to 120Hz when set in auto mode, depending on the content displayed. When unfolded, the device boasts a 7.6-inch QXGA+ AMOLED Infinity Flex Display with 2176 x 1812 resolution, 21.6:18 aspect ratio and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The refresh rate is dialed down to 1Hz when the display is inactive to conserve battery life and can go up to 120Hz for smoother content display. The cover display includes a punch-hole cut-out at the top center for the selfie camera, while the main display features an under-display selfie camera.

Under the hood, the device houses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy found in the Z Flip 5, an overclocked version of the regular Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The chipset is paired with an Adreno 740 GPU. The device is available in configurations with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM, along with options for 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. It runs on One UI 5.1.1 on top of Android 13 out of the box.

On the optics front, the device boasts five cameras. The cover display holds a 10MP selfie shooter with an aperture of f/2.2, while the main display features a 4MP under-display camera with an aperture of f/1.8. On the rear, a triple camera system takes the spotlight, including a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 10MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture, optical image stabilization, 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.

Powering the device is a 4400 mAh battery that supports 25W fast wired charging, 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Other specifications include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button, IPX8 water resistance(but not dust resistance), Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes in an array of color options, including Icy Blue, Grey, Phantom Black, Cream and Blue.
