Months after relying on Facebook and Instagram, Threads is finally starting its own fact checking service on the platform, says Adam Mosseri.
The new social media has been relying on Facebook and Instagram’s fact checking results to verify content on its platform, and now finally goes independent. The move comes at a time when the US is preparing for a general election in November, where possible misinformation may plague social media platforms.
Thread’s Fact Checking Program
Threads, the new social media platform from Meta has launched with a great hype and added millions of followers at start. While it’s mostly due to Mark Zuckerberg’s publicity, the platform is yet to add essential features to stay relevant in the social media space.
And it’s doing so, with the latest one being an independent fact checking program. For months, Threads has been relying on the fact-checking results from Facebook and Instagram, and now set to run its own service.
This was announced by Instagram and Threads head Adam Mosseri, who says that “fact-checkers can rate Threads content on its own.” More details on this program are awaiting – like when exactly Mosseri rolled out the service and which geographies it’s available in.
Threads’ purported rival, X has had this system in place for years, that let its platform users report of any misinformation and share factual data to support their claims. Threads fact-check program comes months ahead of US presidential elections, where most of the misinformation is spread through social media platforms.
