We are halfway through the year, and news, rumors, and leaks about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series are starting to emerge. There is news that Samsung might use its in-house Exynos 2500 Chip for its entire Samsung Galaxy S25 series outside the US and South Korea. This might not be great news for Galaxy S users, as the Exynos chipset always underperforms compared to the Qualcomm chips. This news opposes the earlier rumors and news that Samsung plans to use the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor for the upcoming flagship Galaxy devices.
For reference, the Galaxy S23 series was Samsung’s only flagship S Series where all devices came with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Samsung had to opt for the Qualcomm Chipset for the S23 series after the Exynos chipset’s performance in the S22 series disappointed fans outside the United States. However, this year Samsung moved back to its in-house Exynos chipset for the Galaxy S24 and S24+ outside Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Taiwan, and the United States. But, the South Korean smartphone giant launched its Galaxy S24 Ultra with the Qualcomm chipset in all regions.
Samsung Galaxy S25 series might come with an Exynos 2500 chipset
According to new reports from ZDNet Korea, Samsung is “making an all-out effort” to develop its in-house chipset for its Samsung Galaxy S25 series as part of a project called ‘Solomon.’ Now, OEM is required to improve the yield of its next-generation Exynos 2500 chipset, which has reportedly been very low in the past few months.
The publication revealed that the yield of Exynos 2500 remained under 20 percent as of Q2 2024. This percentage was in the single digits in the preceding quarters. To start the mass production of the Exynos 2500, Samsung needs to improve its yield by up to 60 percent or higher by September or October of this year.
Currently, Samsung isn’t only developing the Exynos 2500 chip. The company is also working on its next-generation Exynos W1000 chipset, which is a part of Samsung’s “Sapphire” project. The Exynos W1000 chipset will come on the Galaxy Watch 7 model. The Galaxy Watch 6 Came with the dual-core Exynos W930 chipset.
Earlier this month, TF International Securities market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo speculated that Samsung would use the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset on all Samsung Galaxy S25 series due to the low yield of the Exynos 2500 chipset.
