Microsoft Hikes the Price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Globally

Microsoft is hiking the prices of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, by $3 to $20 in the US.

Similar hikes affect the global prices of Game Pass Ultimate too, starting September 12, as confirmed by Microsoft. This aside, the company is also introducing a new Game Pass Standard tier for $15, that includes multiplayer functions but doesn’t have day-one game releases and Xbox Cloud gaming support.

Play More? Pay More!

A year after hiking the Game Pass subscription prices, Microsoft is preparing to do it again in September this year, as informed to several customers this week.

Many are sharing the emails they received from Microsoft about the upcoming Xbox Game Pass Ultimat price hike, and the introduction of a new plan called the Game Pass Standard, costing $14.99 a month. The new plan has back catalogue games and multiplayer options but cuts day-one game releases and Xbox Cloud gaming.

And for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, subscribers will have to shell out $19.99/month in the US (up from $16.99/month), starting September 12. Also, the PC Game Pass is going up from $9.99/month to $11.99/month. Xbox Game Pass Core, on the other hand, will cost $74.99/year (up from $59.99/year), while the monthly subscription will remain at $9.99/month.

Microsoft is also forcing users to pre-pay for the Xbox Game Pass for the Console for up to 13 months, while users with more months than that who already paid will not be impacted.

All these changes are coming ahead of Microsoft adding the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and acquiring Activision after a hectic regulatory process. Reports state that Microsoft has been pondering over a price hike since May and now shared an official date with us, finally. Here’s the complete list of upcoming price changes to the Xbox Game Pass subscription.
