Google has begun testing Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation tool. This tool is currently appearing in Google Workspace in beta. Originally announced at the annual cloud event in April, Google Vids uses AI to create videos and presentations for users. Unlike other AI-powered video creation tools, it can generate a storyboard that users can edit in various formats. Currently in beta, it is available only to those who have signed up for Workspace Labs.

Karan S, a Google Docs Community Manager, announced Vids in a post stating, “We’re excited to bring Google Vids into Workspace Labs! Vids is an AI-powered video creation app designed for work and deeply integrated with the Workspace suite you use every day.” Users can access the tool through a provided link.

Google Vids is powered by Gemini AI and can create professional videos and presentations. However, it initially requires user input in multiple steps to produce the desired videos. To start the video creation process, users provide a textual prompt describing what they want in the video. For instance, a prompt like “a presentation for a product launch” will prompt Gemini to create a storyboard with a video outline and generate titles for each section.

Users can choose from various templates available on the platform to create a storyboard. Since the platform is in beta and still being tested, the videos and presentations might be unreliable. A notable feature of this platform is its ability to incorporate data from Google Docs, Slides, videos, audio recordings, and more.

After creating the storyboard, users can edit it according to their requirements, such as changing titles, reordering sections, adding or deleting tiles, and more. Once the storyboard is finalized, users can select a style from the available templates, and Gemini will design the video, complete with stock videos, images, text, background music, and a generated script. Even after the video is completed, users can make further edits, such as adding voice-overs or changing any elements.
