After many rumors and leaks, the Google Pixel 9 series was announced at the “Made By Google” 2024 event at Google’s HQ. This is a hardware event where the tech giant releases its hardware products. However, this year, the company announced four smartphones – the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The company has added a Pro XL variant to its smartphone lineup this year. Like previous years, this year’s Pixel 9 lineup also got leaked extensively, and surprisingly most of the leaks and rumors including the one about the design change are accurate. This article is about the Pixel 9 series and we will share the details of the foldable device in another article.

Google Pixel 9 sepcifications:

The Pixel 9 is the trim-down variant of its Pro siblings and is the cheapest among the entire lineup. This year, Google has made a few refinements in the design of its smartphones as we see more polished side rails and rounded corners. The biggest design change is the slimmer bezels and pill-shaped camera module that popped out at the center of the rear panel. Like previous generations, Google has now opted for a pill-shaped camera module on its latest smartphones instead of a bar that houses the cameras and dual-tone LED flashlight.

On the front is a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with a pixel resolution of 1,080 * 2,424 pixels, 422 ppi pixel density, and up to 2,700 nits of peak brightness. The display has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate that switches between 60Hz to 120Hz depending on the content on the display. Also, this display is 35 percent brighter than the one on its predecessor. There is a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 Victus on the display. For security, there is an ultra-sonic under-display fingerprint scanner which for the first time Google has added in any of its smartphones.

Under the hood is the Google in-house Tensor G4 chipset along with the Titan M2 security chipset. The chipset is paired with 12GB of LPDDR%x RAM, and 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. It runs on Android 14 out of the box with promised seven years of Android updates, security patches, and Pixel drops.

The main USP of Pixel devices is its camera and this year is no different. The Google Pixel 9 comes with a dual-rear camera system consisting of a 50MP Octa PD wide-angle primary camera with a 1/1.31-inch image sensor size and up to 8x Super Res Zoom. The primary camera is paired with a 48-megapixel Quad PD ultra wide-angle camera with a 1/2.55-inch sensor size. On the front, it gets a 10.5-megapixel dual PD selfie shooter with autofocus. The camera offers many AI features including Magic Eraser, Best Take, Photo Unblur, and Night Sight, among others. It can record 4K videos at 24/30/60 frames per second.

The standard Pixel 9 has a 4,700 mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, and Qi-certified wireless charging support. The 45W charger is not included in the retail box and consumers have to buy it separately. The company claimed that with 45W fast charging, the battery fills from zero to fifty-five percent in just 30 minutes.

Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL Specifications:

Both the Pro models are similar except for the display size. The Google Pixel 9 Pro has a similar 6.3-inch display as its smaller sibling – the standard Pixel 9. However, the 9 Pro has a Super Actua LTPO OLED display with 495ppi pixel density, up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch SuperActua LTPO OLED display with 486ppi pixel density, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. The Pro XL display size is similar to last year’s Pixel 8 Pro. Both the Pro models have a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection as well.
