At its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple finally took the wrap off its iOS 18 software update for iPhones. In WWDC, we always get updates related to the Apple software ecosystem. This year is no different as we get many new iOS and Apple ecosystem updates.
iPhone drives significant revenue for Apple, so the company mainly focuses on the new iOS update in its keynote at WWDC every year. At WWDC 2024, Apple also introduced many new features and updates to iOS 18, the next major iOS update.
The iOS 18 is one of the most significant iOS updates we have seen in years. There is a newly revamped control center, a customizable home screen, and an option to add third-party controls in the control center. Check out the details below.
iOS 18 Home Screen Customization:
The first major update in iOS 18 is the home screen customization. This time, it seems like Apple has taken notes from Android, as now you can make your home screen the way you like. You can change the color of the icons on the home screen, which looks different when you enable dark mode. Also, your apps won’t be locked in a grid anymore. You can scatter the apps on the home screen, just like Android users.
Control Center:
This update also includes a major revamp of the control center. Now, users can control media playback and smart home control from the control center. Apple has also included a new control API in this update. Developers can take advantage of this by allowing control management for their apps. It is now easy for users to pin custom controls for their most used apps and functions to make things easier and more efficient. With this new update, you can switch out the flashlight control for something else.
Privacy:
Privacy is a primary focus for Apple and Google’s mobile operating systems. In this update, Apple has improved privacy controls and included some new privacy control options. You can now lock apps behind authentication, such as PIN or Face ID. Users can also hide apps in locked folders so others can’t access the private apps. Users can also decide which of their contacts an app can access instead of giving access to the complete phonebook.
