A month after trailing with the premium subscribers, OpenAI makes its ChatGPT app on Mac available to everyone, this week.
The dedicated app will let Apple users access their emails, screenshots, and other content from their Mac – either through chat or a voice mode. This can be activated by pressing the Option + Space key on the keyboard.
ChatGPT App on macOS
Mid-last month, OpenAI released a dedicated ChatGPT app for macOS – that allowed its premium subscribers to leverage the chatbot’s AI capabilities for handling regular tasks. With that testing period gone good, OpenAI is now opening the app for everyone, as announced today.
The ChatGPT desktop app for macOS is now available for all users.

macOS users, irrespective of their subscription tier to ChatGPT Premium, can now avail the chatbot’s power to find their emails, screenshots, websites, and other content on their Mac. With a simple shortcut of Option + Space on the keyboard, users can activate the ChatGPT interface, and proceed to ask questions.
Alongside, there’s also a built-in Voice Mode to converse with the chatbot, and find past conversations too. While it’s good that OpenAI brought the latest version of ChatGPT – GPT-4o to the macOS, the number of requests a user can make in the free tier is limited. Although, you can reset the conversation and start all over to continue, afresh!
This integration is the result of Apple’s partnership with OpenAI, that brought ChatGPT to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. And if the user permits, Apple’s native voice assistant – Siri can work in conjunction with ChatGPT to provide the best-ever AI experience on your Apple devices.
