Meta-owned Instagram introduced a new multi-audio track support for Reels on Tuesday. This feature rollout began a few days after Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram, known for its photo and video sharing, will now focus on short-form video content. With this new feature, users can now add multiple audio tracks to a single Reel.

Adam Mosseri announced the rollout of this feature via a post on Instagram. He stated that users can add up to 20 different audio tracks to a single Reel on the platform. This will provide users with more freedom, allowing them to create more creative and engaging content. Users can align audio with text and edit Reels with stickers, clips, and other items. Audio clips can also overlap, and the app will generate a fade effect.

According to Mosseri, “With the flexibility to pair the right tracks with the right clips at the right time, one can express their creativity in a way that feels right for them and their audience.”

When users create Reel content with multiple audio tracks, the content will be saved with attribution to them. However, other users can also use these pre-generated audio clips with multiple audio tracks on Instagram. The feature is already available for some users, depending on the region. Those who have not yet received it will soon have access as it becomes available to all users.

Since the rise in popularity of TikTok, many platforms have started to incorporate short-form video content. Instagram was among the first social media apps to introduce short-form video content, branded as Reels. Besides TikTok, this Meta-owned platform has gained user acceptance and popularity for its Reels.

Now, Instagram has announced that it will prioritize short-form video content on the platform. In 2018, Instagram tried to compete with YouTube by launching an app called IGTV, where users could post long video content. However, in 2022, the company discontinued IGTV and has since decided to shift its focus towards short-form video content.
