Instagram is Testing a New ‘School Communities’ Feature

Instagram is working on new ‘school communities‘ feature – a grouping setup to meet people from your school, and share memories.

While it’s still in a closed testing phase, the feature works with MyUNiDAYS to verify your school identity, before joining the relevant community. Users can also highlight their year of passing from the school to meet relevant people, says Instagram.

Starting with a simple photo sharing feature, Instagram has grown to be a full-fledged social media platform today. And to withstand the growing competition from rivals, Instagram is adding a new feature to attract the school fellows – called School Communities.

As noted by Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram is partnering with MyUNiDAYS to verify your school email for joining a group – without having to register for a UNiDAYS account. Once verified, you can invite your school mates to join the dedicated community for fun updates.

Instagram says that nobody on the platform can see the email you shared for verification. A dedicated settings section for the school communities describes that you can also add a banner at the top of your profile to highlight your school’s passing year – which is only visible to those in the specific school community.

While you can remove this tag anytime, keeping it visible may attract more people from your school community. Also, removing the passing year badge won’t remove you from the school community.

Instagram has been working on this school community feature since February, and now adding more updates to it. We hope to see more additions in the near future before rolling out widely to the public.
