Meta’s AI Experiment is Now Live for More Whatsapp Users Globally

Like other big tech companies, Meta has also dived into the world of AI with the experiment of Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. Meta initially launched it’s own AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT last September and it was learned that Meta would bring it’s AI chatbot to it’s social media apps.

Meta initially integrated a generative AI chatbot on WhatsApp back in November last year. However, in the recent beta version of WhatsApp, Meta integrated Generative AI into the WhatsApp search bar. As per the report by WABetaInfo, Meta’s AI integration within the search was limited to a few regions when it launched initially. Now, Meta is bringing it’s generative AI ChatBot to more regions globally.

As per the reports, this AI chat has started rolling out for both iOS and Android devices in more regions globally. WABetaInfo did not mention the exact version of WhatsApp on iOS or Android that comes with the Generative AI Chatbot.

You don’t need to update your App to get the generative AI Chatbot as it is a server-side change, but we still recommend you update your app to the latest version regardless of the operating system you are on.

To access this generative AI chatbot, you need to tap on the new icon of Meta’s AI chatbot in WhatsApp. Users can also access this generative AI chatbot through the search bar in the app. At this point, it is unclear whether Meta will continue offering the chatbot through its dedicated icon along with the integration within the search bar.

Despite Meta’s integration of it’s generative AI chatbot into the app’s search bar, the other search bar features will remain there such as finding certain contacts, groups, or messages.  The generative AI chatbot is similar to ChatGPT as it is a conversational chatbot designed to answer questions. The AI chatbot is built on Meta’s Llama 2 open-source AI model.

By default, it gives you tons of prompts like “Help set fitness goals”, “Solo travel benefits”, “Home maintenance 101”, and many more. Users also have the option to type their questions in the text box at the bottom of the page.
