Over the coming days, The Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets will ask users to provide their birthdays to ensure they have access to age-appropriate tools.
Users receiving this prompt to enter their birthday should do so within 30 days or have their account frozen, says Meta. This is a crucial step not to push Meta into another privacy lawsuit, as the company has already been fighting many for years.
Quest Headsets to Work as per Age
Soon, your Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets will ask you to share your birth dates to continue functioning, as Meta needs them for crafting age-appropriate settings and ensuring user privacy.
This comes at a point where Meta is tangled with many lawsuits over privacy and security concerns and they don’t want to add another on top of them. So when you see a prompt asking you to share your birth date, do it! Else, Meta says the account would be blocked after 30 days from receiving the prompt. “On our app store, we want to make it easier for developers to understand better the ages of people who use their apps so they can provide age-appropriate experiences for preteens, teens, and adults. Parents, in turn, can trust that apps provide the most age-appropriate experience and protections the app offers for their child’s age.”
People who don’t share their birth date within the stipulated time will have their Quest blocked and can only reactivate them after providing the information. Also, users can choose to share their birth dates publicly on their Quest accounts, or they can stay private by default.
