A year after testing, Microsoft has finally opened the Designer app to everyone on the web, Android and iOS platforms, this week.
The new tool is similar to Canva, that can generate AI-images with text inputs, edit the existing ones and build up template-based digital arts. And with Copilot Pro, Microsoft users can use the Designer app in Word and PowerPoint applications too.
Microsoft’s AI-mage Generation Tool
After a year-long preview, Microsoft has finally opened the Designer AI to the public – letting them create any image with the help of AI. Anyone with a Microsoft account can try the Designer app on iOS, Android, Windows and the web – in over 80 languages!
You can either create a new image from scratch or edit the AI-generated stuff as desired. If you’re unsure where to start, the app has a plenty of templates to guide you through. These can be common image types like a greeting card, a smartphone wallpaper, or a profile picture.
Though the company has brought in a dedicated Designer app now, it was in existence since 2022 – through various integrations in other popular apps. For example, leveraging the investor-relationship with OpenAI, Microsoft has cooked in Designer into DALL-E – an image generation tool from OpenAI.
This in turn was integrated into ChatGPT – where its underlying powerhouse GPT-4 runs the Microsoft Copilot now. Linking all these, Microsoft has the Designer AI running up in some form, since a long time.
And now, with the help of its Copilot chatbot, Microsoft brings the Designer AI to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint projects. Although, you need a Copilot Pro subscription for this integration.
