Microsoft Mesh, the company’s mixed reality platform is now integrated into Teams, offering users a 3D virtual meeting experience.
While Microsoft Mesh is a standalone service, adding it to Teams will widen it’s usage and improve the meeting experience. Well, this is currently available only to Microsoft Teams business plans and can be experienced through a VR headset.
3D Meetings on Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is already a big player in video conferencing solutions but to make itself more attractive, Redmond is adding it’s Mesh experience to the platform this week.
Microsoft Mesh is a mixed-reality meeting technology, where the participants can attend their online meetings in 3D mode, with or without VR glasses. After previewing this technology for years, Microsoft finally brought it to the Teams, available to business customers.
If eligible, you can host a customizable 3D meeting and add games like tossing bean bags or icebreaker questions for a fun-filled session. While you can experience the best of Microsoft Mesh with a VR headset, the company currently supports Meta’s Quest devices only.
If available, plug them in to meet your colleagues in 3D avatars and experience rich-quality sounds with spatial audio support. Though it’s best in class, it’s unknown why Microsoft hasn’t brought Mesh to Teams till now.
Though the company says Mesh is being used by Accenture, BP, Takeda and Mercy Ships, those are still a fraction of the companies served by Teams daily. Yet, we’re glad the integration is finally live, although it’s inaccessible to free users.
