Tesla on Tuesday laid off everyone working on the Supercharger and new vehicle development teams, after the company reported weak results in recent quarter.
These layoffs are conveyed through an email to the employees, where Elon Musk himself stated that they’re hard on “head-count.” Moreover, he warned of more executive firings if their teams don’t pass the necessary quality tests.
Tesla Ditches More Employees
More than a transport entrepreneur, Elon Musk is better known for his erratic moves in the business industry. From buying Twitter on ego to making controversial posts, Elon Musk has a knack for making extreme decisions, quickly.
May this have triggered after Tesla’s recent quarterly results, as the boss fired the whole teams working on Supercharger and new vehicle development, including the head executives – Daniel Ho (vehicle programs) and Rebecca Tinucci (EV Charging).
Further, Musk is also dissolving the company’s public policy team in this latest round of layoffs. The cuts come a month after the company bid goodbye to its longtime executive Drew Baglino, who was responsible for Tesla’s battery development.
While assuring that Tesla will continue to build new Supercharger locations and finish those under-construction, he warned the existing staff to be productive to stay afloat. In his note, Musk stated;
“Hopefully these actions are making it clear that we need to be absolutely hard-core about headcount and cost reduction. While some on exec staff are taking this seriously, most are not yet doing so.”
Further, he threatens to ask for the resignation of any executive “who retains more than three people who don’t obviously pass the excellent, necessary and trustworthy test”.
