Threads app has achieved 150 million monthly users

Meta’s owned Threads app has achieved another milestone as the app now has 150 million monthly active users. This is an increase of almost 20 million users since February. These numbers are shared by Mark Zuckberg during the Meta’s first quarter earning call to shareholders. He said that the app “continues to be on the trajectory that I hope to see.”

These numbers are promising for almost a year-old app but still, users are growing at a slower pace than what was expected when the app attracted 100 million users within the fifth day of its launch. On its initial day, the app benefited from the huge user base of Instagram because the app is linked to Instagram but after that, there was a decline in monthly active users. The app became the fastest app to reach 100 million users and it did so in just five days beating Open AI’s ChatGPT.

However, in the last six months, the Threads app has gathered momentum again and users are growing consistently. Mark Zuckerberg has speculated that the app could eventually become Meta’s next billion-user app.

Interestingly, Threads is beating its rival X formerly known as Twitter according to some metrics. For those who don’t know, Threads was launched by Meta to compete directly with X and the app is bringing almost all the features that X has.

Apptopia estimates that Threads has beaten X by some margin in the United States in terms of number of monthly active users, according to a report by Business Insider. On the other hand, X formerly known as Twitter has approximately 550 million monthly active users. Threads app also benefitted from Tayler Swift as the American singer joined the platform to promote her latest album.

At the moment, Threads is the only Meta app that doesn’t have advertisements so the company does not make any money from it. However, this will change in the future as Marck Zuckerberg said that they would “focus on monetization” only after the app has achieved a significant number of users.
