Adding a new way to express yourself, WhatsApp is bringing it’s animated avatar pack to more beta users this week with a new update.
Animated avatars have been in testing since last December but haven’t rolled out to the general public yet. Well, as Meta keeps working on it, the pre-configured animated avatars list has been increased to 40(from 36) and there could be more in the stable version.
WhatsApp Animated Avatars
One of WhatsApp’s many features in the pipeline is animated avatars, which the platform has been testing since last December. It all started with making a personality-based sticker called avatar – Bitmoji-type emojis popularised by Snapchat once upon a time.
Since WhatsApp is late to the race, the platform adds an animation touch to make them unique. In the latest WhatsApp beta for Android v2.23.16.12, WaBetaInfo has reported the support for animated avatars. The collection has been improved to make your conversations interesting, while the number of animated avatars increased to 40 from 36 earlier.
Animations of all these avatars are pre-configured, so you can’t change their actions. And surprisingly, the latest beta version of the app allows testers to send animated avatar stickers to people running the stable version of WhatsApp. So if you got a friend who’s a beta tester of WhatsApp running the said version and has access to animated avatars, ask them to send you some.
Else, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. Animated avatars are an excellent replacement for GIFs because you can’t find accurate ones all the time.
